i recently bought this colorful, striped cardigan from Forever 21 for around twenty bucks.
with the fringe, it has a cool, relaxed, boho style to it. i wanted to step outside of my usual style choices, which keeps things interesting…and fun! i kept jewelry scarce, and added a small Hobo cross body.
Madi commented that my little leather Hobo was the perfect addition. stating,
you look like a girl, headed to Coachella, and all you need is your tiny bag for your phone and money.
she offered her stamp of approval, case-in-point why i absolutely love shooting with her.
i paired my low-cost find with this j.crew chambray shirt. it has a western feel, with the pearl button detail.
i tend to stay away from investing too heavily in items on the trendy side. that way, when it goes in & out of style, i don’t regret paying too much. and just because it’s a “trendy” item, doesn’t mean i get rid of it- oh no.
“why?”, you ask?
because it might come back, of course! (hoarder’s oath)
when buying less costly pieces, i always choose noticeable items. like this boho chic striped cardigan.
if a shirt has sequins, or a loud pattern, it’s noticeable…obviously. and let’s face it- you won’t wear it as much because of that fact. unless, you wear it on several occasions when you “didn’t see anyone”- you might end up wearing it a handful of times.
my mom and i have been known to take the price of something, and divide that by the number of “wears”. that’s always how we justify over-priced jeans. but really, it works.
ask yourself “how many times will i ACTUALLY wear this?” when you do the math, you can estimate the cost per wear, and better assess what your closet just can’t live without.
(general mathematics is not my forte, but fashion math is.)
choose to really invest in your classic, wardrobe staples. you won’t regret it, and your closet will thank you.
…so will your wallet.
